The Parachute Adams is one of the most famous, if not the most famous, dry flies. It is effective and easy to fish. The Parachute Adams is a dry fly designed to imitate the adult stage of a wide range of water born insects. These include Mayflies, Midges and Caddis.
The Parachute Adams brother is just simply the Adams Dry Fly. Both look nearly identical. The only difference is the Parachute Adams offers a white (or other color) parachute on the top of the fly. The parachute helps with visibility on the water. In other words, it makes the fly easier to see for the angler.
There are also high Viz varieties of the Parachute Adams. On these varieties the parachute is a color which offers more contrast on the water.
The Foam Parachute Adams is another popular variation. The Foam offers a fly which requires much less, if any floatant.
Most fly fishermen will agree that the Parachute Adams is a staple in the dry fly box. Along with the Elk Hair Caddis, and the Adams, this fly is most widely used. Sizes 12/14 and even 16 are equality used.
You can use the Parachute Adams as a point fly in a dry dropper configuration. The Parachute Adams can nearly serve as a strike indicator as well.
